Background and Experience
Clive Pyne is a professional freelance indexer. He writes concise, well structured back-of-the book indexes on a wide range of topics. He mentored under a seasoned professional indexer before launching his own indexing business in October 2004, and has indexed over 500 books for authors and publishers in 14 countries.
With a BSc degree in biological sciences, he was involved in research and dove under the polar ice in the Canadian Arctic for several years. Prior to entering the publishing field, he was in university administration at the University of Toronto, human resource management, and a management consulting practice serving clients in both government and small to large sized organizations. He is the author of a book on compensation management for pay equity.
Clive has a warm disposition, a sense of humour, and a real commitment to getting work done correctly and on time. He is a good communicator, self-starting, thorough, reliable and will do whatever it takes to get the job done on time and on budget. He provides the highest level of professional support, coordination and project management.
Book indexing is more like playing the violin: most people get totally stressed out by the complexity of the task; some people learn how to do it reasonably well; but only a few master the art and science of book indexing.
